As soon as the soil can be worked, plant them outside. The weather here in Seattle is supposed to reach the mid 70’s this weekend. Maybe I should send the chickens a thank you card. Personally, I think the pea plants look kind of artsy fartsy in their new home. Firm the soil gently over the top of the seed with a little reassuring pat. But when you are trying to grow 2,000 lbs of fruits and vegetables in your backyard, every seed and or plant counts. Plant seeds by poking them into the soil up to your first knuckle, about 23cm deep. Ideally, once you plant peas you don’t want to move them. I’ve learned over the years that when you are trying to transplant peas is as close to the old soil as possible. What did I do with all the pea plants? Well I didn’t toss them out, instead I transplanted the pea plants to a few containers we have on the back porch.
